Medieval Church: Poland, Chojnice. The outside of the church was scattered with head-high indentations left by executioners bullets during WWII. The inside of the church was closed off to the public but I was taken inside by my brother in law and two lads who were the Polish version of the Hardy Boys; well known around town for seeking out historical and archaeological mysteries.

Epping Forest, the first day of Spring, and yet, still no sign of life.

Hastings, United Kingdom. A seaside town on the decline. The grimness was probably accentuated by going there in the middle of winter.

My visit to Gdansk. Everything was caked in Ice.

photo: Poland, the Proletariat gig

The Proletariat were a successful punk rock band in Poland in the 80s. Their voice had a particular resonance in the context of Communist rule. This gig was a reunion and, from what I could see, they still rocked it with extreme prejudice. There were quite a few strange punters including The Tyskie man and a significant selection of people who hadn’t let go of the 80s.
